Emily Faulkner is a New York-based choreographer, dancer, improviser, and the Artistic Director of Emily Faulkner/Wind-Up Dances. Faulkner has choreographed 14 completed works, which have been presented throughout New York, at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, in Toronto and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. She has worked with many ground-breaking choreographers, including Jennifer Lacey, DD Dorvillier and Yvonne Meier.
Each perfomance by Emily Faulkner/Wind-Up Dances displays a balance between spontaneous improvisation and rigorous structure; movement that plays between recklessness and delicacy, that turns on a dime from pedestrian to whimsical - Faulkner's dances create a logic and a world of their own.
Emily Faulkner will be represented at Emporium 2012 by Amanda Grimm.

| Artistic Policy | Emily Faulkner/Wind-Up Dances are a dance company that strive to find new movement possiblities within themselves, and delight in sharing these with audiences and fellow dancers.
Faulkner endeavours to allow her innate body/mind intelligence to drive her improvisation and choreography. A certified and experienced teacher of the Alexander Technique, she employs the principles of this method to become fully present and engaged, to heighten natural coordination, and to create a more open conduit for body/mind creativity. From this state, movement follows creative intentions almost spontaneously, enabling the discovery of new movement patterns and the emergence of innovative choreography. |

| Past Productions | WIND-UP CIRCUS (2011)
Wind-Up Circus combines acrobatic, circus-inspired spectacle with exquisitely delicate movement and deadpan wit. Sequined ponies canter in unison. Acrobats manipulate tables and contestants toy with tea sets. Think postmodern dance meets Alice in Wonderland.

The following is a selection of works which were choreographed by Emily Faulkner before she founded Emily Faulkner/Wind-Up Dances.
LILY (2008)
A poignant solo about being a mother, Lily paints an elegant yet quirky portrait: movement that shifts effortlessly between precise mechanical accuracy and teetering on the edge of falling.
Lily was featured in the Performance Mix Festival at the Joyce SoHo, by invitation of New Dance Alliance. It was also chosen by a peer panel of artists to be shown at Movement Research at the Judson Church.

THE GOAT PRINCESS (2006)
A postmodern fairy tale: a goat tricks a girl into switching places. Replete with fairies, magical transformations, a chase scene and, of course, a tea party.
Performed by Faulkner and Jodi Bender, The Goat Princess was chosen for the DanceNOW NYC Festival at Dance Theater Workshop. It was also presented by The Works as part of the HATCH series, selected by New Dance Alliance to be part of the Performance Mix Festival at The Joyce SoHo and shown at Dixon Place and Tea Dances, New York.
Choreographed by Emily Faulkner | 2 dancers | 15 minutes | Currently available for touring
RUBBERMAID (1998)
A dance composed entirely of floor movement: two dancers, effortlessy and fluidly, twist and contort themselves into endless configurations whilst manipulating two large berets.
This duet with Jody Sperling was performed, at the invitation of DanceNOW NYC, in a drained outdoor swimming pool. It was also selected by a peer panel of artists for Movement Research at Judson Church, and was performed at Dixon Place and DIA Center for the Arts (now the Joyce SoHo).
