Federation of Scottish Theatre hosted a reception in the Scottish Parliament to celebrate the 'Dance in Scotland' research report published earlier this year. The Report made eight recommendations covering issues of participation, professional development, specialist training and talent retention.

The reception, sponsored by Joan McAlpine, MSP, attracted a wide range of delegates from dance, education, sport and health sectors, as well as a number of national and local government representatives. In their speeches, Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Andrew Dixon, Creative Scotland and Jon Morgan, FST, emphasised the importance of participation in dance activities and the need for everyone to have access to it.

Young dancers from ProjectY, YDance, opened the event with their brand new, beautiful dance piece. The reception was closed by Emma-Jane Park from Barrowland Ballet who led the whole crowd to dance to Salt-N-Pepa’s song ‘Push It’. This exhilarating piece left everyone ‘feeling the joy of dance’.
