Federation of Scottish Theatre

Access Project

The FST Access Project exists to support its members and the wider sector in all their access activities.  FST will be delivering a series of training and audience development projects to improve access provision for audiences and build capacity within organisations to meet their access goals.

The Access Scottish Theatre guide will provide audiences with comprehensive information about accessible performances and access at participating venues.  FST will be delivering two pilot editions in 2009 as well as delivering supporting training and audience development initiatives.  The guide will engage directly with audiences encouraging regional and national networks that will build audiences, and improve sector knowledge to ensure that future developments meet the requirements of disabled audiences.

Our BSL Pilot project will work to deliver information to BSL users in their own language by launching online information in British Sign Language.  By getting information out in appropriate formats we aim to engage audiences to ensure that provision and demand better correlate.

FST continues to coordinate captioning in Scotland and the Access Project provides us with the opportunity to embed captioning within our wider audience development activity, actively supporting members to reach Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audience and building audiences.  We co-ordinate captioned performances in Scotland by providing captioning equipment to venues and touring companies at no hire charge.  A freelance Captioner is then employed to provide a captioning service.  For further information about captioning, booking equipment and hiring a Captioner please contact the Access Project or view information in the Access Resource Centre in the members’ section of the website.

As the Access Project grows we will be posting regular information in the Access Resource Centre in the members’ pages.  These resources will provide best practice guidelines while also sign-posting you to external resources.

Over the course of the project we will also be offering training opportunities that will be posted in the training section of the members’ pages.

For further information please contact the Access Project Manager
